Focus Areas

EPNanoNet was launched in 2008 and aims to promote the growth of nanotechnology within the E&P industry.  To date, work within the network has achieved the following:

  • The completion of the first draft of the E&P nanotechnology roadmap, which explores nanotechnology opportunities and applications within the areas of:
    • Exploration
    • Reservoir
    • Drilling and Completions
    • Production
    • Unconventional resources
    • Sustainable development
  • A comprehensive “Needs Survey” of the oil and gas industry. This identified what challenges individuals from within the E&P sector wanted to see addressed by nanotechnology companies.
  • An identification of key individuals across the globe who will have an interest in participating in future network events.

As EPNanoNet moves forward we will continue to refine the areas already explored.  Additionally, we will:

  • Hold three major conferences each year, with the aim of bringing together key individuals within both the oil & gas and nanotechnology sectors.
  • Hold webinars each year, which will present on particular themes of nanotechnology uses within the oil & gas sector
  • Update the technology roadmap, to maintain its position as a unique catalogue of state-of-the-art technologies that address key E&P needs.
  • Provide online and face-to-face forums for identifying and addressing barriers to implementation
  • Raising awareness of nanotechnology and communicating the needs of the E&P sector, both within and beyond the industry
  • Building a vibrant community of individuals who appreciate the value that can be attained from applying nano-technology into the oil & gas sector will be the principal aim of the network.
  • This will be supported by the continued development of the industry roadmap.  The roadmap will be updated annually and will be used to define and direct the network’s other activities.
